Malkia Charlee

Malkia Charlee is the co-founder of Femficātiō Publishing. Originally founded in 2012 as a woman-centered feminist litzine, the company has since re-launched as an independent publishing house. Femficātiō Publishing amplifies voices often marginalized—not just for being women or BIPOC, but also for producing thoughtful, overlooked literature. The Lion and the Wolf is the company’s first published title.

Charlee reads prolifically and cannot pin down a single favorite genre, often gravitating toward the obscure and the forgotten. She strives to exalt work that ensures, in her words, “the universe is possessed of a memory” (Jorge Luis Borges).

Malkia Charlee is a writer and poet from Atlanta, Georgia, raised among artists, storytellers, and people who “watered rocks.” Her early poetry appeared in anthologies in the U.S. and U.K., including Stand Our Ground: Poems for Trayvon Martin and Marissa Alexander. In 2012, she released her debut poetry collection, Emergence of the Lotus Flower, now out of print.

With a background in healthcare and digital systems, her writing often wrestles with the structures that shape—and sometimes fail—our lives. The Lion and the Wolf is her first novel. She currently lives between the U.K. and Portugal, where she writes, thinks too much, and seeks out the sun.
