How to Write a Proposal to Femficātiō.
1. Project Overview
What is the title and type of project (poetry collection, novel, novella, hybrid work, essay series, etc.) In 1–2 paragraphs, tell us what your book is about — the themes, questions, images, or ideas that anchor it. Use your best writing here. If you're blending genres or forms, tell us how and why.
2. Research / Conceptual Foundation
We use the term research broadly — this isn’t just about footnotes or academic sources. What is the foundation of your book’s creative thinking?
Poetry & Art: What real-world elements — nature, news, politics, mythologies, visual cultures, personal philosophies, spiritual practices, or aesthetic traditions shape the work? What’s your lineage — not just literal, but artistic? Are you responding to anything specific?
Fiction: What ideologies, histories, theories, or alternate realities are you building from? Are you in dialogue with certain authors, or drawing from lived experience, cultural memory, or political critique?
Non-Fiction: What is the social, philosophical or emotional grounding of your writing? What questions are you asking that others aren’t? What systems or stories are you trying to untangle, deconstruct or reconstruct?
Traditional Non-Fiction: While this is factually objective information with a clear structure; tell us something about how the topic has influenced a geography or culture. For instance, if you are writing about the history of wine or toymaking; let us know how those particular industries impacted, coloured or informed their environments — customs, traditions, people. Open to everyone, but particularly interested in perspectives from diaspora writers.
Think of this as the why behind your work.
3. Structure & Form
Give us a short sense of how the book is structured. Is it linear, fragmented, cyclical, themed in sections? How many poems/chapters/essays do you envision? You can include a rough outline or bullet points here. You don’t need to have it all figured out — but let us know how you imagine the flow.
4. Where It Fits
How does your project align with Femficātiō’s interests — either directly or philosophically? We don’t want an essay on feminist theory here. We want to know how this is relevant to a world that wants to build, sustain, and nourish. What conversations are you joining or starting?
5. Author Background
A short paragraph about you. Don’t feel as though you need published or academic credits here. If you have them, feel free to let us know — but really, we just want a little about where you're coming from and anything else that, in reality, we can use to help the marketing of your work if selected.
6. Comparative Titles
Something else that’s useful for marketing: 2–3 books that align with your work — in style, tone, or theme. Don’t worry if the titles that most closely align have only been read by 3 people — we just need resonance.

A Note on Voice
We want well-written, clear language. Don’t worry if it’s too formal — that’s fine. Speak with clarity and confidence. If your work is experimental or genre-bending, your proposal can reflect that — but keep the core structure clear.
We read proposals with great curiosity and care. We will always provide thorough feedback, even if it’s not right away. Give us at least 3-4 months to review your work.
